This is a message from the City of Calgary Cllr. Sean Chu.
The project will see a 220-metre multi-use pathway built through the greenspace adjacent to the Confederation Park Golf Course Driving Range. It will start at the corner of Collingwood Drive N.W. and connect to the corner of Copithorne/Constable Road N.W. Here is a drawing that shows the alignment of the pathway for reference.

Weather permitting, construction is expected to begin next week and wrap up by the end of August.
We also want to make you aware that our project team has received several concerns from residents regarding the pathway. We’re sharing additional context about the concerns below for your awareness:
Concern about the lack of resident consultation regarding the overall need and purpose of the pathway in this location
This pathway is part of The City of Calgary’s 5A (Always Available for All Ages & Abilities) network, which supports safe, year-round travel options for people of all ages and abilities.
This location was identified as a missing link in the network. A well-used informal trail already exists, indicating strong community use despite the lack of formal infrastructure.
The new pathway will provide a safer, more accessible route and improve connectivity between Charleswood, West Confederation Park, and surrounding areas.
Concern about the removal of six elm trees
We recognize the importance of preserving trees and community greenspaces. The pathway has been carefully routed to avoid the soccer field and minimize tree impacts.
Six elm trees will need to be removed. This has been reviewed by The City’s Urban Forestry Team and complies with all City and Provincial guidelines. While elm pruning is restricted from April 1 to September 30, this does not apply to full removals.
Potential safety risks from stray golf balls
We are reaching out to the Confederation Park Golf Course to share the resident concerns about stray golf balls in the greenspace.
We will be asking them to assess whether any additional safety measures may be appropriate to help mitigate potential risks to pathway users.
