Investing in Our Community: Building Envelope Project Wrap-Up

We are very happy to inform you that our Building Envelope Project is complete! Since 2020, Triwood Community Association has been planning, applying for funding, and working towards approvals to complete this vital project.

The project has successfully mitigated several issues related to prolonged building integrity and has added a transformative change to the attractiveness of our most popular amenity space, the Charleswood Hall. The Building Envelope Project replaced all glass on the north side of the building with new triple-pane windows, replaced a deteriorating access ramp, replaced cracked stucco finish with Hardie Board siding, replaced a deteriorating retaining wall for below ground level access and exit, and replaced an end of lifespan section of roofing.

As with all construction work, the Building Envelope Project came with unexpected challenges and delays. Triwood Community Association would like to extend it’s thanks to Lola Architecture, Westcor Construction, and the Triwood Board of Directors and volunteer Capital Project Committee for their time and energy in working towards collaborative solutions to these challenges. Triwood Community Association would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the community partners and residents, building users, guests, and staff that had to pivot and endure noise and disturbance throughout construction. The Building Envelope Project would not have been possible without your flexibility and patience.

Triwood Community Association would like thank the Government of Alberta (Community Facility Enhancement Program), and the City of Calgary (Capital Conservation Grant) for their financial support towards the Building Envelope Project. We are grateful for these investments which will continue to preserve an important gathering space that anchors community life in our neighbourhoods.

The Building Envelope Project will help ensure Triwood Community Association can meet the local needs and serve the public well into the future.

We acknowledge that Triwood Community Association and surrounding communities are located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stoney-Nakoda peoples (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney First Nations). This is also home of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Districts 5 and 6. As residents of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, we seek to live, work and play in ways that honour and respect the spirit of the treaties and the lives of our Indigenous neighbours.
