This year’s Community Clean Up this past Sunday was another big success, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came out to help keep our neighbourhoods clean, safe, and clutter-free.
For those who may not know, Community Clean Ups are a free service provided by the City of Calgary, hosted by community associations like ours. They give residents a chance to clear out unwanted or hard-to-dispose-of items, all while connecting with neighbours and supporting local causes.
This year, Triwood Community Association and Brentwood Community Association teamed up to co-host the event. We welcomed the City of Calgary dump trucks for general refuse, along with a metal scrapper, an electronics recycler, CP Alberta accepting donations, the Buy Nothing group for item swapping, and the local 4th Elks Scouts group, who ran a bottle drive fundraiser. With carloads of items coming in all day, it truly was a team effort to make sure everything found the right place.
A huge thank-you goes out to the 15–30 volunteers who joined us throughout the day. Together, they dedicated an estimated 65+ volunteer hours to making the event run smoothly—making this Triwood’s second-most volunteer-reliant event of the year (right behind our Stampede Breakfast). We’d especially like to recognize the 4th Elks Scouts group, who handled the literal heavy lifting during the morning shift, and all the community volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and weren’t afraid to get sweaty right alongside us. Your time and energy made the day possible.
Events like these show the power of neighbours coming together—not only to tidy up, but to build stronger, more connected communities. We couldn’t have done it without you, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
