Halloween Thank You

Due to the situation surrounding COVID-19, we knew that Halloween 2020 would be different than anything that we have experienced before. In the months leading up to Halloween night, we began planning the Spooktacular Scavenger Hunt. The goal from the start was to provide a way for the entire community to still participate in Halloween night, while drastically reducing the amount of in-person contact, in order to protect those who are most vulnerable.

Our solution was to transform the community center into a one-stop trick or treating destination where we would hand out candy on behalf of our community members. We quickly spread the word mid-October to let households know to drop off their candy at Triwood where we would divide the candy into treat bags.

The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. We received an estimated 30,000 pieces of candy to distribute and saw approximately 50% of households in the area participate by hanging up their door hangers. Between 400-500 kids participated as trick or treaters and we provided free hot drinks to the parents as they passed through.

It was incredible to see the community come together at this scale, we are beyond grateful for everyone who participated and made this event come to life. We hope that everyone enjoyed the event, and we hope to see you soon at our Christmas Carnival on December 20th!

Thank you again!

We acknowledge that Triwood Community Association and surrounding communities are located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stoney-Nakoda peoples (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney First Nations). This is also home of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Districts 5 and 6. As residents of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, we seek to live, work and play in ways that honour and respect the spirit of the treaties and the lives of our Indigenous neighbours.
