Back at Triwood: The Travelling Exhibit, Re-Imagining Fire: The Future of Energy

We are thrilled to welcome back Albertan art to the walls of Triwood through the Travelling Exhibition Program through the Alberta Foundation of the Arts! Visit us until July 20th to view these beautiful pieces.

About the exhibit, Re-Imagining Fire: The Future of Energy

Fire was humanity’s first great energy breakthrough. It gave us warmth, light, and protection, and it transformed how we cooked, traveled, and created tools. For thousands of years, fire has symbolized knowledge, power, and transformation, yet it also reminds us of the delicate balance between creation and destruction.

Today, most of the energy we use still traces back to that first spark. Burning fuels has powered much of human progress, but it has also brought new challenges: climate change, habitat loss, and questions about how we care for the Earth.

This exhibition invites you to re-imagine fire—to see energy not just as a resource to consume, but as a story we can rewrite. Through art, science, and imagination, we can explore new ways of powering our world: from sunlight captured in space to energy stored deep underground, and wisdom passed down through Indigenous land practices.

As you move through exploring the exhibition and the included artworks and writing, consider this: If fire was humanity’s first energy revolution, what will our next one look like? How might we create a future where energy is abundant, sustainable, and deeply connected to the health of our planet?

We acknowledge that Triwood Community Association and surrounding communities are located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stoney-Nakoda peoples (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney First Nations). This is also home of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Districts 5 and 6. As residents of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, we seek to live, work and play in ways that honour and respect the spirit of the treaties and the lives of our Indigenous neighbours.
