Earlier this season, Triwood Community Association was thrilled to welcome a brand-new ice resurfacer to the arena thanks to the support of several generous grants and funding partners. While many people use the term “zamboni” to describe any ice resurfacing machine, that’s actually a brand name. Our new machine is technically an Olympia - so now you have a fun arena fact to share at your next skate!
To celebrate the arrival of the new machine, we invited our community to help choose a name. Residents submitted their ideas, the top suggestions were put to a public vote, and we’re excited to officially introduce Frostbite as the winning name.
To mark the occasion, we hosted a special photo opportunity during the final public skate of the season last Wednesday. Community members of all ages stopped by to see Frostbite up close and even climb aboard for a photo. It was wonderful to share the excitement and celebrate this new addition with the people who make Triwood such a vibrant community.
From naming contests to photo ops to smoother ice all season long, Frostbite has quickly become part of the Triwood Arena family. This wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support of our funding partners. A huge thank you to the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP), Parks Foundation's Amateur Sport Grant Program, the Allardyce Bower Foundation, and the Kinsmen Club of Calgary for helping to provide a better arena experience for the thousands of skaters, families, and community groups who use our facility every year. We are very grateful for their investment in our community and for helping bring this exciting project to life!
Thank you to everyone who submitted names, cast a vote, and joined us to celebrate. We look forward to many seasons of smooth ice ahead with Frostbite on the job.
